Kia took advantage of the Chengdu Auto Show in China to unveil its latest creation, the EV5. This is the third vehicle to join Kia's EV model lineup, alongside the EV6 and EV9. In fact, there's a significant influence from the latter in the design of the EV5.

The new all-electric SUV from the Korean manufacturer is both efficient and elegant, thanks to the fact that "engineers and designers worked closely at every stage of the model's creation process," as mentioned by Quebecois Karim Habid, Vice President and Chief Designer at Kia. He also adds that the EV5 was created with a philosophy of "opposites, yet united."

A high-fashion design

Kia is one of the brands I love the most when it comes to design, and that's not solely because there's a Quebecois behind it all. The manufacturer shows great boldness in its creations, and its vehicles evoke a variety of emotions. The EV5 is elegant yet aesthetically imposing. There are intriguing design elements from every angle. The level of research put into designing each element is simply astonishing. Take, for example, the headlights with daytime lighting. Their design was inspired by a constellation, and this is just one of the many aspects of the EV5 influenced by nature.

Unsurprisingly, the interior of the Kia EV5 is ultra-modern. A new 4-branch steering wheel design is presented, and it's an element that immediately catches the eye due to its understated and elegant appearance compared to the rest of the dashboard. The ambient lighting is very sophisticated, offering 64 color options. Like everything else, the interior has been designed to be as versatile as it is elegant. According to Kia, the EV5 was specially designed to meet the needs of the modern millennial family. An interesting element at the front is a complete bench seat. However, this is merely a design element, as there is no third seat belt in the front.

The technical specifications of the Kia EV5 SUV are not yet known. Nevertheless, one can expect performance similar to that of the EV6 SUV since Kia tends to use similar elements from one model to another. As for its official presentation elsewhere in the world, no date has been provided. For now, it's only known that the model will be made available in the Chinese market by the end of the year.
