Kia Niro EV 2025: Exponential Popularity

While most automakers are focusing on creating luxurious and expensive 100% electric models, there are still too few affordable options. Thankfully, one major player in this category has seen its popularity skyrocket since the market began flooding with electric vehicles: the Kia Niro, one of the most compelling affordable electric models available today.

From the start, the Korean automaker scored big with the Niro, which is offered in hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric versions. It's the latter that interests us today.

Updates for 2025

Although there are no major changes for the 2025 Kia Niro EV, the Korean automaker has made a few additions to the lineup of its small electric SUV. New features include a pretensioner system for the rear seatbelts and several additional safety technologies.

Trims and Pricing

One of the most attractive aspects of the 2025 Kia Niro remains its price. The base MSRP of this Korean SUV starts at just $45,595, before various government incentives, making it even more affordable. For this price, you get an impressive standard equipment list, including a 10.25-inch multimedia screen, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay.

For an additional $3,000, you can opt for the Wind+ version, which adds a wireless charging system for compatible devices, a smart rear liftgate, and, most notably, a heat pump, a feature that makes a huge difference during the colder months. In my opinion, this upgrade alone justifies the additional cost.

At the top of the range is the Wave trim, starting at $53,595. Its price is justified by features such as a sunroof, a Harman Kardon sound system, a head-up display, and several other luxury features. Note that each version incurs around $2,000 in transportation and preparation fees.

Category and Competitors

Subcompact electric SUVs are relatively rare, which makes the Kia Niro EV particularly interesting. For this reason, it's often compared to slightly larger cars or SUVs. In my view, it currently offers some of the best value for money in the electric vehicle market.

Design and Technology

I've always appreciated the Niro's design because it maintains the brand's aesthetic signature while offering a unique and modern flair. It features a sleek, contemporary finish and a serious demeanor, paired with an attractive color palette. The only exception is the Snow White Pearl color with a gray rear pillar, which somewhat resembles the design of the Smart Fortwo.

The 2025 Kia Niro EV's interior is minimalist and elegant, featuring a digital instrument cluster that spans more than half the dashboard. It also includes premium ambient lighting and a well-thought-out ergonomic design. Technology-wise, I'm particularly fond of its multimedia system, which is both fluid and intuitive. Driver assistance technologies are easy to engage and highly effective. Additionally, the Niro is one of the few SUVs in its category to offer adjustable and retractable cupholders, a clever feature.

Performance

The 2025 Kia Niro EV comes with a front-wheel drive powertrain delivering 201 horsepower and 188 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 7.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 168 km/h. However, its most impressive feature is its 64.8 kWh battery pack, which provides an average range of 407 kilometers on a full charge.

Competition in the electric vehicle segment is getting fiercer. However, few automakers can deliver a model as affordable and well-equipped as the Niro. This is why the Korean automaker's SUV remains one of the most appealing electric vehicles on the market today.
